Sentinels Attack In 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' Clip
The MTV Movie Awards came complete with a barrage of clips and ads, and one of the most significant was a minute-long clip from Bryan Singer's new X-Men film. Here, the Sentinels attack early in the X-Men: Days of Future Past storyline — or early in the movie at least, despite these events taking place in one possible future for the mutant race.
Here you'll see a variety of mutants, from Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) and Colossus (Daniel Cudmore) to Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Blink (Fan Bingbing), Bishop (Omar Sy), Sunspot (Adan Canto), and Warpath (Booboo Stewart). All work together as the mutant-hunting Sentinel robots attack. You'll see more of how the Sentinels operate, and get a sense of how the mutants are employing teamwork to defend themselves — not that it will likely do them any good, given how effective the Sentinels are.
Having read the original Days of Future Past issues so many times as a kid, and being ready to enjoy seeing a diverse group of X-Men work as a team, I'm still put off by how strangely stilted this looks. The effects are top-notch, but this scene suffers from a lack of context and urgency. Here's hoping that it all plays with much more impact when we see the film as a whole. Right now, it's getting to where every new bit of footage from this film reminds me of that old quote from Dolly Parton: "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap."
X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on May 23. It stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. MTV has the clip.
The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.
