'Real Steel' Teaser Trailer
Briefly: If you ever dreamed of a live action, big budget Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots movie, director Shawn Levy and star Hugh Jackman are happy to oblige. Check out the awesome first trailer for Real Steel, opening October 7, 2011 in regular format and IMAX theaters, after the jump. Real Steel also stars Anthony Mackie, Evangeline Lilly and Kevin Durand in the futuristic story of a man and his son, who team up to help a robot win the championship after the man himself ends his human boxing career. It's a unique blend of sports and sci-fi.
Some of my favorite movies of all time are either sports movies and sci-fi movies so I'm obviously the target audience for this one. It's like The Terminator meets The Champ, even if the trailer doesn't quite highlight The Champ storyline at all. In fact, the son doesn't show up at all (Does he?) Basically, Dreamworks just wanted us to know that they have not one but two kick-ass robot movies coming next year, and here's the one that comes out in October. The steel never stops. And neither will my dumb founded anticipation for this movie, which official website is the best URL ever: steelgetsreal.com.
Here's the official tale of the tape

A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, "Real Steel" stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
"Real Steel" is directed by Shawn Levy ("Night at the Museum" franchise and "Date Night").
