Quicksilver Is Back In 'X-Men: Apocalypse;' Could We See A Solo Movie?
Even people who didn't like X-Men: Days of Future Past love the Quicksilver scene. As Charles, Logan and Hank sneak into the Pentagon to break out Erik, they employ the talents of a young speedy mutant named Quicksilver. He steals the movie with an incredible slow motion scene where he runs around a kitchen, under active sprinklers, completely changing the situation in order to help our heroes. You can watch a behind the scenes video about it here.
As pre-production continues on that film's sequel, Bryan Singer's X-Men Apocalypse, its been revealed that the character, played by Evan Peters, will return. That's not really that surprising. What is a bit surprising is the something second unit director on the film says about dreaming of a Quicksilver solo movie. Read more about Quicksilver X-Men Apocalypse below.
Former stuntman Brian Smrz was the second unit director on X-Men: Days of Future Past, and was responsible for much of the Quicksilver scene. In a new interview with Newsarama, he said there's more of that in X-Men: Apocalypse:
Well, there will be another Quicksilver scene, which I'm looking forward to; that'll be fun. Other than that, I can't really say much – I'm looking forward to working with the cast and crew again. I've worked with Hugh Jackman four times before this, and I love the younger cast who's already great to work with as well.
He said he'll work part-time on the film for the next few months then, by the end of the year, it'll be his focus full time leading into production.
As for graduating from second unit director to primary director, Smrz is obviously interested and even has some ideas in the superhero genre:
We talked about Quicksilver before, I'd love to do a Quicksilver as a solo film because there's a lot to enjoy with that character. But I'm not geared just towards superhero movies; for me it's about great main characters, and finding movies that have that.
Now it's important to note, just because he said he'd love to do a Quicksilver solo film that doesn't mean it's happening. However, there's always a chance. The character was crazy popular and similar characters are coming to the competition too: the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as the DC Comics Universe. Avengers: Age of Ultron has the exact same character and The Flash is getting his own movie in 2018.
Would you pay to see a Quicksilver solo film? How do you think he'll fit into X-Men: Apocalypse?
