'Pom Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold' Trailer
One of our favorite films at this year's Sundance Film Festival was Morgan Spurlock's super-meta advertising documentary that, at the time, was simply called The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. The official title is now Pom Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold and it's scheduled for release on April 22. A fantastic trailer for the film has just premiered and you can check it out below.
Thanks to Yahoo Movies for the trailer premiere.
At Sundance, we loved the movie (Peter's review is even quoted in the above trailer) and we did an impromptu video blog, which you can see as part of the review.
In case the trailer didn't sell you on the concept of the film, here's what it's all about. Morgan Spurlock, director of Super Size Me, had an idea – make a movie about product placement that's totally paid for by product placement. The world's first "docu-buster." With that in mind, the film begins with Spurlock setting out to do that. It's a movie about a man making the movie you are watching. It's the world's first making of documentary and film rolled into one. Spurlock pitches himself to several different companies, researches the history of product placement, and maintains a hilarious tone and energy from beginning to end.
Much like the blockbusters the film is trying to emulate, the film has tons of huge laughs and even moments that could get the audience cheering. And yes, we're still talking about a movie that's about product placement.
However, the trailer does spoil a few of the sponsors that sign on, a few of the sight gags and more. I guess that was inevitable, though, because once the film comes out a trip to your local gas station or supermarket could easily spoil several of those same things as well.
Are you excited for this film? Do you fully understand the concept or is it still confusing?
