'Pacific Rim' Concept Art Features Massive Scope And A Giant Skull
If there was a direct correlation between concept art and the quality of movie, Pacific Rim would rank among the best movies ever. Two gorgeous new images were just released that show unique aspects of Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming "monsters vs. robots" blockbuster, opening July 11.
This is just the latest in a cavalcade of awesome promotion for the film. Trailers, images, blueprints, everything we've seen so far has been very promising. Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) as a former Jaeger (robot) pilot forced back into action when the Kaiju (monsters) attack the Earth. Along for the ride are Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and others.
With this new art, you'll see just how big the Jaegers are as well as something to do with a skull. In all likelihood, that one is a bit of a spoiler. Check them out below.
Here are two pieces of Pacific Rim concept art from Total Film. According to their article, they have many more in their latest issue. Also, the second piece of art here is definitely a potential spoiler.
The first piece of concept art, the Jaeger standing above the snow covered city, seems like a precursor to some footage that's briefly seen in the trailer and was expanded on in the original Comic-Con footage. In that footage, a huge robot was found buried under the snow. This looks like he's protecting a city and, maybe, that he fails.
Second is a huge skull that seemed to be used as some kind of church. I'd bet that's a Kaiju skull, right? Which would mean humans either defeated the Kaiju in the past or will at the end. Either way, a potential spoiler.
The problem with concept art, though, is that sometimes it's just created to showcase mood. There's no guarantee if the scenes are actually in the movie. I guess we'll find out in July, or maybe when a new trailer is released.
