'Jurassic World 2' Will Continue The Tradition Of Having Kids Run From Dinosaurs
Over the past couple months, we've been getting little tidbits here and there about Jurassic World 2. Technically, this could also be called Jurassic Park 5, but since we're dealing with a whole new franchise, it's probably easier to have the distinction between what came before and what's happening now. Now we know Jurassic World 2 will keep one tradition from the ongoing franchise alive.
A new casting call for Jurassic World 2 reveals some vague details about a new character, and it's a kid. Which means we'll continue the tradition of having precocious kids run from dinosaurs yet again. Find out more about the new Jurassic World 2 character after the jump.
The Jurassic Park fan site Jurassic Outpost (via MovieWeb) found out about a new casting call making the rounds for a character named Lucy, and producers very specifically want her to be 9 years old. Here's what the casting call says:
"She is a young girl around 9 years of age. The girl playing "Lucy" must be at least 9 years of age by February 2017, but cannot be over 10 years old. She must be a sensitive and clever actress capable of handling long and complex scenes. Lucy must be able to handle a range of emotions from tender moments with her father, to anxiety, bravery, and shock."
They seem pretty adamant about having a girl who is a very specific age, but clearly a little mature for her age. That's a trademark of most child characters in Steven Spielberg movies, whether he's directing or just producing. And with that specification of being able to show "anxiety, bravery and shock," it's clear she'll be encountering some dinosaurs in this sequel. Because, duh.
The big question from this casting call is who is Lucy's father? More than likely her father will be a new character, but what role will he have in this story? Since we don't have any details on they story beyond the movie being a parable for animal abuse and the potential for open source dinosaur breeding, it's hard to say. I suppose Lucy's father could be Chris Pratt's Owen Grady character. We don't know much about his life off the island and there's a chance he shares custody of Lucy with an ex-wife or has an estranged daughter.
Another question is will Lucy be the only kid we see in Jurassic World 2? It's certainly possible. The Lost World only had one kid in the movie, and it was Jeff Goldblum's daughter, so maybe this sequel will follow suit. We haven't heard if Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins from the first Jurassic World will be coming back, but considering the danger they found themselves in the first time around, it would feel rather contrived to have them around again.
We'll find out more about Jurassic World 2 as production looms closer. Otherwise the sequel hits theaters on June 22, 2018.
