New 'Harry Potter' LEGO Sets Are Coming, Starting With The Great Hall Of Hogwarts
It's been years since any Harry Potter themed LEGO sets were manufactured. There were a variety of sets available when the original film franchise was at the height of its popularity, but ever since the original franchise came to an end in 2011, the creation of any new sets has been stagnant. But that's about to change.
A new line of Harry Potter LEGO sets will be released starting in the second half of 2018 with the Hogwarts Great Hall playset. The new sets will bring to life scenes and characters from both the original Harry Potter franchise and the more recent Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. Get a first look at the first of the new Harry Potter LEGO sets below.
Harry Potter LEGO Hogwarts Great Hall
As you can see, not only is the signature exterior of The Great Hall portion of Hogwarts represented here, but a small part of the interior as well. It's created more as a miniature diorama rather than a scale representation of the castle. That's fine since a full version of Hogwarts castle would be quite expensive. But maybe LEGO will slowly release smaller sets of Hogwarts locations to allow fans to create a larger display of the wizarding school.
In addition to The Great Hall interior, complete with Gryffindor and Slytherin house colors, you can also see small parts of other Hogwarts rooms, including Professor Albus Dumbledore's office (and the spiral staircase that leads up to it) and the room used to house the Mirror of Erised (where you can see Harry and his parents reflected).
The set also comes with the miniigures of Harry, Ron, Hermione, Draco, Susan Bones, Professor McGonagall, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Nearly Headless Nick, and a tiny Professor Quirrel that turns into Voldemort when you twist his head around. Oh, and Hedwig, Scabbers, and Fawkes also get LEGO versions of themselves too.
The Hogwarts Great Hall LEGO set will be released on August 1, 2018 for $99.99, and several other sets will be announced for release later this year too. Between this and the new Solo: A Star Wars Story LEGO sets, we're going to be busy building this year.
A Vast Improvement in Harry Potter LEGO Sets
In the seven years since Harry Potter LEGO sets stopped being produced, there have been plenty of advancements and changes in how the toy company produces sets for movies. They've gotten more grand in scale, and there have been infinitely more intellectual property based sets released. It only makes sense that LEGO wants to go back and make their Harry Potter sets better.
The first round of Harry Potter LEGO Sets that were released for the first three movies in the franchise left something to be desired. Both the design of the sets and the pieces used to build them were nowhere near as sophisticated as the builds that are being used today. They improved as the franchise continued with the later sets releases in 2010 and 2011 being significantly better than when Harry Potter LEGO sets first started.
Based on this first new Harry Potter LEGO set, I have a feeling these new sets are going to amazing. Personally, I'd like to see an update on the Hogwarts Express and The Knight Bus. A set for The Room of Requirement and the entry way of the Ministry of Magic would be awesome too. But we'll have to see what new sets LEGO and Warner Bros have cooking.
