'Me Before You' Trailer: Dany From 'Game Of Thrones' Falls For Finnick From 'Hunger Games'
Love is in the air, what with Valentine's Day just around the corner, and that means it's the perfect time for Warner Bros. to try and get you to swoon for Me Before You. Emilia Clarke (of Game of Thrones fame) and Sam Claflin (of Hunger Games fame) meet and fall for each other in Thea Sharrock's adaptation of Jojo Moyes' bestselling novel.
This being a romantic drama, of course there's a tragic twist: he's basically given up on life following a terrible accent that's left him a quadriplegic, and she's his caretaker. Moyes wrote the screenplay with Michael H. Weber and Scott Neustadter, who basically specialize in tearjerker romances these days — they're also the duo behind The Spectacular Now, The Fault in Our Stars, and Paper Towns. The first Me Before You trailer has arrived today, and you can watch it after the jump.
The cast list for Me Before You reads like a who's-who of geek-friendly Brits. In addition to Clarke and Claflin, the film also stars Matthew Lewis from Harry Potter, Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who, and Charles Dance from Game of Thrones. But it doesn't seem to have much in common with those sprawling sci-fi and fantasy epics. Instead, it looks like an unapologetically sappy love story. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you're in the mood for something sweet and sentimental, it should hit the spot.
Plus, it gives us a chance to see Clarke as we've never seen her before — as an aggressively quirky, bubbly, and upbeat girly-girl in sharp contrast to the commanding badasses she's played on Game of Thrones and Terminator Genisys. This looks kind of like Clarke doing her best to channel Zooey Deschanel in the early seasons of New Girl, and... well, it's different, let's give her that.
Often times you find love where you least expect it. Sometimes it takes you where you never expected to go...
Louisa "Lou" Clark (Clarke) lives in a quaint town in the English countryside. With no clear direction in her life, the quirky and creative 26-year-old goes from one job to the next in order to help her tight-knit family make ends meet.
Her normally cheery outlook is put to the test, however, when she faces her newest career challenge. Taking a job at the local "castle," she becomes caregiver and companion to Will Traynor (Claflin), a wealthy young banker who became wheelchair bound in an accident two years prior, and whose whole world changed dramatically in the blink of an eye. No longer the adventurous soul he once was, the now cynical Will has all but given up. That is until Lou determines to show him that life is worth living. Embarking together on a series of adventures, both Lou and Will get more than they bargained for, and find their lives—and hearts—changing in ways neither one could have imagined.
Me Before You arrives June 3, 2016. Thea Sharrock directed.
