Long 'Elysium' Trailer: This Is The One You've Been Waiting For
Here's the Elysium trailer you've been waiting for. This one shows more of District 9 director Neill Blomkamp's vision of a crappy everyday life on Earth, as a character played by Matt Damon tries to deal with the automated law enforcement of the trashed planet.
The trailer sets up a lot more of the first act, showing the accident that leaves Damon's character in critical condition, and establishes the deal that leads him to Elysium, where the wealthy and powerful reside. We don't get to know too much about the Elysium leader played by Jodie Foster, but we see a lot of action leading up to her role in the movie, and quite a bit of her stalking about. Despite the 3-minute length, this trailer doesn't seem to give too much away.
Check out the footage below.
That's very close to what we saw at Comic Con last summer, with some new footage at the end that features more combat between Damon's character and the antagonist played by Sharlto Copley.
Elysium opens on August 9. Yahoo has the trailer.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet's crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens' luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max, an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
