'Kick-Ass 2' Not Likely To Be Matthew Vaughn's Next, Says Co-Writer Jane Goldman
Those who are really hoping to see a sequel to Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass have latched onto reports about the progress of the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., and have eagerly ingested rumors about possible progress on a film screenplay by Matthew Vaughn and his Kick-Ass co-writer Jane Goldman. But there's really no screenplay in progress, says Goldman, and it looks like whatever Vaughn makes next won't be Kick-Ass 2.
Responding to a few recent rumors via twitter, Jane Goldman issued two tweets that cleared things up:
Saw a few erroneous reports today that I'm currently writing Kick Ass 2 script – sorry if anyone's disappointed, but not true. Currently writing for 2 other projects, then on to lovely Matthew V's next thing (right now, looks unlikely to be KA2) when X-Men post-prod' ends.
So we're pretty much where we were last time this came up (when Mark Millar said Kick-Ass 2 was greenlit) because Matthew Vaughn is neck-deep in X-Men: First Class. If you've read any of the recent coverage of that film, you know he's got zero time to work on the script for another film. He's barely even got time to finish First Class in time.
And if Jane Goldman says she isn't working on the script either, then we'll just have to wait. So what will Mr. Vaughn's next film be? There have been plenty of possible projects mentioned (American Jesus, Bloodshot, and Turf, based on a comic written by Jane Goldman's husband Jonathan Ross) but we don't have any reliable info for his post-First Class plans.
