'Jupiter Ascending' International Trailer: The Wachowskis Go To Space
The last Jupiter Ascending trailer got mixed reviews when it hit in December, with some folks rolling their eyes at the sci-fi cliches and others enchanted by the Wachowskis' creativity and ambition. Today a new Japanese promo has hit for the epic adventure, and while it won't change any skeptical minds, those who loved the last one will probably be thrilled to see more.
Mila Kunis stars as the Jupiter of the title, a lowly cleaning lady down on Earth. Her life is forever changed when she's tracked down by an albino wolf-man from outer space (Channing Tatum), because that tends to happen when one is tracked down by an albino wolf-man from outer space. Hit the jump to watch the new trailer.
The new Jupiter Ascending trailer follows most of the same beats as the old one, but there are some new bits of footage mixed in here and there. As with so many of the Wachowskis' projects, this looks like it could be a masterpiece or a total disaster. If it's the latter, at least it's bound to be a weird, interesting wreck, instead of a generic, lifeless one.
Jupiter Ascending opens July 18. Douglas Booth, Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne, James D'Arcy, Tuppence Middleton, Doona Bae, and Terry Gilliam also star.
Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
