J.K. Simmons Prepares For Commissioner Gordon, Will Make You Feel Hopelessly Inadequate
J.K. Simmons is one of our finest living actors, the kind of performer who can vanish into any kind of role and elevate bad movies through sheer force of will. While he's played his fair share of loving fathers and desk jockeys and Spider-Man-hating news editors, it should be mentioned that Simmons is also a downright terrifying physical specimen who could probably twist your head clean off your shoulders should you cross him. Just look at image above from his Oscar-winning turn in 2014's great Whiplash. There's a reason he wears tight t-shirts throughout that entire movie. The man is ripped.
And now that he's re-entering the comic book movie world with his role as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League, Simmons has seemingly decided to look the part. New photos from his personal trainer have arrived online and they reveal a 61-year old character actor who could probably kill you with a single finger.
These photos initially arrived on the Instagram page of trainer Aaron Williamson and they're mighty impressive. If you woke up today and decided that you needed to see something that would kick your butt back into the gym after six months of dutifully paying your fees because you were too embarrassed to cancel your membership, here you go. The dad from Juno could kick your butt.
This also gives us a clue as to how director Zack Snyder is choosing to depict this iteration of Gordon, who has been Batman's number one ally and most trusted friend for decades of comic book continuity. While most previous cinematic versions of the character have treated him as a career cop and civil servant with the body of a guy who spends most of his time filing paperwork, several incarnations of Gordon have implied that he's former special forces and has the physicality to match. In a recent storyline, Gordon even became Batman for a little while when the Dark Knight was supposedly killed, defending Gotham City in his place.
Anyway, here are those photos, just in case you want to feel really bad about your own personal health.
