Jeffrey Tambor Officially Fired From 'Transparent'
In November of 2017, actor Jeffrey Tambor was said to have left the Amazon series Transparent in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations. Later, however, Tambor claimed he might not be leaving the show after all. Now, it's official: Tambor has been fired from Transparent following an internal investigation from Amazon.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that actor Jeffrey Tambor is leaving the Amazon series Transparent. "I have great respect and admiration for Van Barnes and Trace Lysette, whose courage in speaking out about their experience on Transparent is an example of the leadership this moment in our culture requires," said series creator Jill Soloway. "We are grateful to the many trans people who have supported our vision for Transparent since its inception and remain heartbroken about the pain and mistrust their experience has generated in our community. We are taking definitive action to ensure our workplace respects the safety and dignity of every individual, and are taking steps to heal as a family."
In November 2017, Tambor seemingly announced his departure from the show following accusations of sexual misconduct from the actor's former assistant, actress Van Barnes and Transparent semi-regular Trace Lysette. Tambor's November statement is below:
"Playing Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life. What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago.
I've already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don't see how I can return to Transparent."
Jeffrey Tambor Fired from Transparent
A month after this statement, word came that Tambor might not be leaving the show after all. A spokesman for Tambor issued another statement in December 2017, saying:
"What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it's very hard for him to see how he can possibly return. But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon."
Now, it's finally official: Tambor is leaving. Amazon launched an internal investigation into the matter, and the conclusion has lead to Tambor's departure from the show. The actor will have not have a part in the upcoming season of Transparent. Per THR, the Transparent writing staff "began reworking the upcoming fifth season following news of the first allegation against Tambor as the series mulled refocusing the show without its star."
