'Imperial Dreams' Trailer: The Sundance Movie John Boyega Made Before 'The Force Awakens'
It's been two years since the indie drama Imperial Dreams debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and that was just before star John Boyega landed what will likely be the biggest role of his career in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Sadly, the film, which isn't about Finn having dreams of joining the Empire, still doesn't have distribution despite the fact that it's deserving of an audience. That's why the Imperial Dreams trailer has made its away online in an effort to get some more buzz and interest on the film again. Check it out below!

Boyega landed his role in The Force Awakens shortly after Imperial Dreams premiered at Sundance, and it might be a blessing that the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Malik Vitthal didn't get picked up yet. Now that Boyega is a much bigger star, plenty more people might give Imperial Dreams a chance simply because he's in it.
The film received some solid accolades at Sundance with THR praising Boyega's performance in the movie:
British actor Boyega seems to have an innate feel for the setting, taking on the role of Bambi with genuine empathy for the character's situation. His rapport with the young actors playing Bambi's son is especially poignant, particularly when nearly their entire existence is relegated to the back and front seats of a broken-down sedan curbed on a dead-end street in the Watts housing projects.
As we said, the film doesn't have a distributor yet, but hopefully some more interest in the film will convince someone to pick it up so people can finally get a glimpse at this festival selection. Here's the official synopsis.
Bambi (John Boyega) wants to publish his credos and chronicles and start his career the way any other normal young writer would. For Bambi, however, normal is the quandary. "Normal" means returning to Watts, Los Angeles, after a 28-month jail stint to find his young son playing next to his strung-out grandmother. It's normal for the patriarch of his family to offer Bambi pills, guns, and a drug-running job as a way to welcome him home. A normal visit from his cousin involves Bambi and son performing minor surgery to extract a bullet from his arm. Bambi meets this surreal, ghetto normal with equanimity, but he knows life can't be "normal" like this for long.
We'll let you know when Imperial Dreams actually gets a release date.
