VOTD: Fanmade Trailer Makes Harry Potter Look Like The Villain
Just recently, a video essay turned the beloved 80s movie The Karate Kid on its be proposing that protagonist Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) was actually the villain in the movie, not Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). There were some pretty convincing and compelling arguments to be made that LaRusso isn't exactly a positive figure for a hero. But sometimes that's how it works in storytelling.
Now a new fanmade trailer has taken a more modern hero and made him look like the villain. It's no secret that Harry Potter is the hero of the book and film series that bares his name in each and every title, but a new fanmade trailer uses some clever edits to show Harry Potter as a villain instead. Watch below!
Here's the fanmade trailer making Harry Potter out to be the villain:
The first thing you notice is that there's a lot of footage to work with that when isolated makes Harry Potter seem really aggressive an unhinged. That voiceover that blames Potter for the death of his parents is a nice touch too, almost turning this into The Good Son with magic.
However, it's not as if the idea of Harry Potter potentially being a bad guy isn't something that goes unnoticed in the Harry Potter series. After all, the only reason that Potter is put into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin is because he asks. It's about the choices he makes that sets him apart from his nemesis, despite their abundant similarities. Otherwise, he has everything he would need to just become another Tom Riddle, the teenage wizard who would become Lord Voldemort.
In the end, this video may not be quite as clever as turning The Shining into a lighthearted family drama, but it's still a nice little distraction for now. Thanks to GeeksAreSexy.net for bringing this to our attention for a bit of fun.
