Watch Sean Astin And Corey Feldman Talk About 'The Goonies' Sequel
As a huge fan of the original Goonies, I was as confused as anyone when director Richard Donner chose TMZ as the outlet to say a sequel was coming. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one. Stars Corey Feldman and Sean Astin were both surprised when Donner came out to talk about The Goonies sequel.
Now, in a new interview, you can watch Feldman and Astin discuss it amongst themselves. Astin says original screenwriter Chris Columbus is back in some capacity and that producers are "actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about." Watch the full video below.
Thanks to Huffington Post, via MovieWeb for the find.
If you don't want to spend four minutes watching the video, here is the major highlight.
Astin said the following:
I happen to know that they are actively trying to secure a writer based on an outline that they feel really confident about. When Steven [Spielberg], who ultimately is the decision-maker on this, when he has felt the magic and he and [The Goonies director Richard Donner] are in agreement, which I believe will happen, then it will be a thing.
He also says Columbus is back, but doesn't specify if he came up with the outline, is merely producing, or what. He's not writing it though as he's currently, or soon to be, in production Pixels.
I do love that Feldman acknowledges the confusion of both statements by Donner about the Goonies sequel, neither of which were taken particularly seriously. To me, it feels like this discussion is so honest and passionate, for the first time I almost believe this movie might eventually happen. Almost. Until a release date is set with a director and script, I'll always remain cautiously pessimistic. What about you? Do you think the Goonies sequel will happen?
