Author Gillian Flynn Leaves Door Open For 'Gone Girl' Sequel
Whether you're talking about the book or movie, Gone Girl has an deliciously infuriating ending. Author/screenwriter Gillian Flynn crafted a story about people you hate who are doomed to be attached to each other forever. There's no happy ending here. No bow on top. And that's part of what makes both versions of the story so great.
But this is the Internet era and no one is every satisfied. So Flynn was recently asked if we could ever expect a sequel to Gone Girl, and she didn't say "No." Read the Gone Girl sequel quotes.
Flynn was asked about a Gone Girl sequel by the New York Daily News, and here's her response:
There could be a sequel at some point if everyone is game to get the gang back together, it could be really fun a few years from now to pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on—not well I don't think.
She does have a pretty major caveat, however:
I would have to have the exact same people to do it—I would want Rosamund [Pike], Ben [Affleck] and Fincher to do it.
Well, most of the team is reteaming for Strangers so it doesn't seem that far fetched.
Gone Girl was a big hit at the box office, grossing about $167 million domestically and over $365 million worldwide. And there's a chance it could do well at the Academy Awards (nominations are this Thursday), both signs that point towards a possible sequel. The biggest question mark though isn't the actors or even Fincher. It's Flynn herself. Does she have an idea that's as audacious as the first one and warrants a sequel? If she does, great. If she doesn't, there's no point in even discussing it.
