Scientists Have Named A New Dinosaur After Signature 'Ghostbusters' Monster

Scientists from the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto recently discovered a new dinosaur, and because of its resemblance to a certain monsters from the original Ghostbusters from 1984, it has been given a very special name.

Inspired by the terror dog who ends up inhabiting the body Sigourney Weaver's character Dana Barrett is possessed by, scientists have named the recently discovered prehistoric beast Zuul crurivastator. They even had writer and star Dan Aykroyd come check out the skeleton of the dinosaur, and he introduces us to the creature after the jump.

Like Zuul, the new species has a short, rounded snout and prominent horns behind the eyes. The shape of the horns and the ornaments on the skull are what identified Zuul as a species new to science. Its species name, crurivastator, means 'destroyer of shins', and references the incredible weapon-like tail club found with the skeleton.

The dinosaur resembles an ankylosaurus, but with armor on its body that's a little more sharp. Check it out:

If you look at the illustrations, the face only bares a passing resemblance to the dinosaur, but I'm not going to argue with naming a dinosaur after something from Ghostbusters. Now if we could just find another one to name Vinz Clortho, we'd be one step closer from the arrival of Gozer the Gozerian to finally put an end to this world.
