'Sin City' Creator Frank Miller Wants To Write 'Captain America'
Though he's been wrapped up in Hollywood, Frank Miller is still one of the most important comic book writers of his generation. He created some of the most recognizable and significant comics out there, and his takes on Daredevil and Batman remain influential to this day. His iconic story The Dark Knight Returns, for example, is even being used as a heavy influence on the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
In recent years, Miller has been adapting some of his comics, most notably Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, to the big screen. But in a new Reddit AMA, he expressed an interest in writing new Captain America comic book stories for Marvel. And Marvel could be interested. Read the Frank Miller Captain America quotes below.
Frank Miller did a Reddit AMA and was asked which superhero he'd like to write. Here's his response:
Again, I get back to Captain America, because I find him such a wonderful anachronism. And also, I feel that he features virtues that my country has either lost or misplaced for a very long time. Especially at a time when the country is so clearly threatened, a hero like that is outstanding. I remember telling people at Marvel, just a few days after 9/11, that I hoped they realized what they had there, because Captain America's reaction to 9/11 would have been pretty direct.
Miller and Captain America seem like a perfect match. Miller's extremely vocal, patriotic and was hoping to do a comic where Batman hunts down Osama Bin Laden. It later became Holy Terror.
The Hollywood Reporter noticed that on the Formspring of Marvel Comics' executive editor Tom Brevoort, someone brought up this statement, to which he replied with:
So far as I know, Frank has never spoken about this desire with anybody at Marvel. We'd certainly be interested in the abstract, depending on what story he'd want to tell. (I don't think, for example, we'd have gone ahead with HOLY TERROR as a Captain America story.)
Do we think this could be the first seeds of a new Frank Miller Captain America story? Wouldn't it be awesome if he came on to write for the movies? What do you think?
