Kevin Feige Bits: Avenger 'Inhumans' Denied; Plus Netflix Connections And 'Thor 3' Villain
At the junket for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige offered updates Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Captain America 3 and more. You might think that's more than enough information on the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe but it's not. Not even close. Feige has been asked, and commented, on many, many other things as well.
To make due, we've compiled the first ever "Kevin Feige Bits," quotes that are interesting but maybe not quite revealing enough for their own story. There's one on the potential connection between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Inhumans, conversations about linking the Netflix shows with the MCU, and if the Thor 3 villain was teased on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Read them below.
First up, a rumor began at Unleash the Fanboy earlier this week that mutants Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were going to be Inhumans in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The connection would, potentially open the door to that film and a new universe in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Note: Beware that link as it has some huge Captain America: The Winter Soldier spoilers.) Speaking with Feige, I directly asked him, "What about the rumor that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Inhumans?" His reply:
Only journalists today have been telling me that's popping up online. That's absolutely not the case.
He said something similar to the Huffington Post. They asked "So using the Inhumans would have nothing to do with getting around the word "mutant"?
As it relates to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver? No. No, no, no.
Could he be fibbing? Always. But, it sounds pretty definitive.
Speaking with Feige, I also asked him about the upcoming Marvel Netflix shows. Feige is more directly involved in the movies and not the TV but I inquired if there were any conversations yet about a crossover, in the way Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the MCU cross over.
The only conversations, really, have been – I think – they're smart desire to make those shows stand on their own. To make those shows all about making the best Daredevil show you can make, the best Jessica Jones show you can make. Which is what the early days of the MCU – and still now – all of our movies are about. 'What's the task at hand?' 'Make the best Iron Man movie.' 'But we have an idea that we can bring in Nick Fury and introduce that all these movies are connected.' 'Okay let's put that in the tag though so it doesn't distract from the movie itself.' So I think that's what they're focusing on. Just doing a great 13 hours of Daredevil, a great 13 hours of Jessica Jones.
So, unfortunately, no real information there, but starting with quality is the best place to start.
Recently on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. an Asgardian character named Lorelai appeared, which required Sif (Jaimie Alexander) coming to Earth to assist. Lorelai's sister is the Enchantress, a character Loki himself – Tom Hiddleston – mentioned as a potential awesome villain in Thor 3. Movies.com asked Feige if the appearances were at all a hint.
No, I wouldn't say that. [The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D team] very much have to forge their own territory, their own ground on the TV show, and where events can coincide... it's fun to do that.
