'Fear The Walking Dead' New Teaser Blacks Out Los Angeles

We're still a few weeks away from the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, the companion series to AMC's hit horror drama The Walking Dead. but the spin-off series was recently given a 15-episode order for a second season, as recounted in our TCA coverage.

And along with news of that second season order, a new teaser promo for the series premiere has arrived. There's no footage from the actual show used, but it's a pretty cool teaser showing a time lapse of the zombie outbreak from a distance as it wreaks havoc on Los Angeles. Parts of the city begin losing power and going up in flames. The City of Angels clearly isn't safe anymore.

Watch the new Fear the Walking Dead promo after the jump!

Fear the Walking Dead takes place before the events of The Walking Dead, focusing on the beginning of the zombie outbreak in the city of Los Angeles. The end of the first season won't even catch up to the beginning of The Walking Dead, so we get an entirely different perspective on this disaster.

Following a whole group of new survivors in a major city should make this companion series stand out in a variety of ways, and it's good to see there's no urgency to connect the spin-off to the original series, especially since these stories take place on opposite sides of the United States. This will let Fear the Walking Dead stand on its own without relying on the characters fans already love.

If you want to see what you can expect from the companion series, the first trailer with actual footage from the show is available right here. And you can find out more in our recent coverage of Fear the Walking Dead from the Television Critics Association panel right here.

Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.

"Fear the Walking Dead" is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. The series stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris.

Fear the Walking Dead premieres on August 23rd at 9pm Eastern with a super-sized 90-minute episode on AMC. Plus, the first season finale will be followed by a special episode of Talking Dead on October 4th.
