Diagon Alley Food And Drinks: The Best New Eatables In The Wizarding World

When The Wizarding World of Harry Potter first opened at Universal Orlando, fans went nuts over the real-life beverage adaptation of Butterbeer, and loved candy treats that had only previously been seen in the movies and books. (As invented, in fiction, by JK Rowling herself.) So what does the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley expansion hold in terms of fun food and drink options? Lets take a look at our ten favorite Diagon Alley food options from the the exclusive preview event.

Paulopabita's Fishy Green Ale is an non-alcoholic beverage which was advertised but not sold in the original Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The drink is creamy, green in color, a mint cinnamon flavor with plump blueberry "fish eggs."

I was not able to try this one out myself but it came highly recommended by others I met during the preview. The drink comes with a larger straw so that you can suck up the small "fish egg" boba-like balls on the bottom of the cup.

Fishy Green Ale is available in The Leaky Caldron, The Fountain of Fair Fortune and The Hopping Pot.

Ice Creams: Butterbeer and Chocolate Chili

How do you top Butterbeer? How about Butterbeer flavored ice cream? Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour is the only place in the Wizarding World to buy such a treat.

On Harry Potter's first visit to Diagon Alley, Hagrid presented him with a large chocolate and raspberry flavored ice cream with chopped nuts, which likely came from Fortescue's shop. The shop and proprietor Florean Fortescue play a small role in Harry's adventures but you'll want to seek out the establishment on your visit to Diagon Alley.

Butterbeer Ice Cream

Butterbeer ice cream is one of the shop's soft serve ice cream options, mixing the signature butterscotch butterbeer taste in a swirl of vanilla ice cream. This seemed to be the uncontested favorite new food item in all of Diagon Alley by preview visitors.  I had a small cup and can attest its pretty great. (That said, I still prefer the original frozen beverage version of Butterbeer.)

And if you're not in a Butterbeer mood, let me also recommend the shop's Chocolate Chili scooped hard ice cream, which mixes chocolate and spice for a nice kick. This is another thing I tried out in Diagon Alley and I think Mexican chocolate lovers will love this one. Another flavor exclusive to Diagon Alley and Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour.

Draught Beers: Wizard’s Brew and Dragon Scale

When Butterbeer was introduced at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, some adult fans were disappointed that it was a non alcoholic beverage. While the Diagon Alley doesn't offer an alcohol version of the famous butterbeer drink, it does introduce some special Wizarding World-only adult beverages.

The first of these is Wizard's Brew, a draught beer with a sweet stout with a dry finish.

The other is another draught beer, the Dragon Scale. This one is a unique lager with a multi finish.

Both beers are available in The Leaky Caldron, The Fountain of Fair Fortune and The Hopping Pot.

Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice and Peachtree Fizzy Tea

Carbonated Drinks: Otter’s Fizzy Orange Juice and Peachtree Fizzy Tea

Diagon Alley brings a bunch of new Wizarding World beverage options. Two of them are carbonated, and both of these drinks are available at The Leaky Cauldron and The Hopping Pot.

Peachtree fizzy tea is a peach flavored carbonated beverage with a hint of ginger. Its a tasty sweet refreshing drink. The drink was described as an effervescent peach-flavored wizarding beverage brand, and appeared in the movies. According to the film prop, the beverage brand was established in 1876, "made with magic" and had a "fizzing volume of 87%".Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice

The other is the Otter's Fizzy Orange Juice which is a slightly carbonated orange soda drink with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon and a slice of orange. Not the most exciting drink in the wizarding world, but a refreshing choice.

Harry Potter fans might recognize Otters Fizzy Orange Juice was a Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes product that was created as a background prop in the movies.

Skiving Snackbox at diagon alley

Candy: Skiving Snackbox

The Weasley's Skiving Snackbox is exclusive to Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, not available anywhere else. The collectible box costs $39.99 and comes packed with four different kinds of candy: Fainting Fancies, Nosebleed Nuggets, Fever Fudge (vanilla fudge jelly beans), and Puking Pastilles (hard boiled sweets).

The story is that the set is created by the Weasleys to include a range of sweets to make the consumer appear to be ill and unable to stay in class. The candies and box set were in both the books and the films, and are an exclusive new addition to the Diagon Alley expansion.

Gilly Water potions

Gillywater Potions

In the books, Gillywater was a wizarding beverage made from a mixture of Gillyweed and water. You might recall that Romilda Vane once attempted to convince Harry Potter to drink some Gillyweed that she had spiked with Love Potion. And of course, Universal has turned this into a drink option at Diagon Alley.

At the Eternelle's Elixir of Refreshment stand, the Wizarding staff can mix a potion of your choice with a bottle of gillywater. You can enjoy Fire Protection Potion, Babbling Beverage, Draught of Peace or Elixir To Induce Euphoria mixed in with your gillywater.

This is the one item on this list that isn't amazing as much as it is a cool experience to see the Wizarding staff open a bottle of colored potion (which we assume is just an added flavoring) and add it into the gillywater (which we assume is regular bottled water with a special Wizarding World label).

Fish and Clips at The Leaky Cauldron

Fish and Clips at The Leaky Cauldron

This is the one food option on this list that is not exclusive to Diagon Alley as it exists in the Muggle world. I'm not a huge fan of British food, so most of the options at Diagon Alley's main eatery The Leaky Cauldron aren't my thing. (I stuck to the safer specialty chicken sandwich.) But Many people I know tried and loved the Fish and Chips entree, which is exactly what it sounds like it is — battered fried fish with tartar sauce and french fries. I'm sure this will be a top seller among the options offered at the Cauldron.

diagon alley Ploughman's

The Ploughman's Platter for two also looks like an interesting choice, a traditional english dish which is a feast of English cheeses, crusty bread, cornichon pickles, apple beet salad, Branston pickle and a Scotch egg.

Tounge Tied Lemon Squash

Drink: Tounge Tied Lemon Squash

And last up is The Tongue Tying Lemon Squash, a tart and tangy lemon flavored drink with hint of vanilla. If you have a craving for lemonade, this is the Wizarding World version of that classic which will leave you pucker-faced. This drink is only available at The Leaky Cauldron and The Hopping Pot.
