Warner Bros. May Have Revealed The Identity Of Dead Robin In 'Batman V Superman'
Ever since a shot in one of the trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice showed the vandalized suit of Batman's sidekick Robin being displayed on a mannequin in a case, fans have been wondering just which version of The Boy Wonder bit the dust. Sadly, when Batman v Superman hit theaters, they didn't get an answer.
Now, thanks to a revelation from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour where costumes and props from Batman v Superman are on display, the studio has confirmed which version of Robin was killed by The Joker before the events of Dawn of Justice.
In a video from the Warner Bros. tour Facebook page (which has strangely since been removed after this detail started circulating), the tour guide showing fans around the exhibit of Batman v Superman costumes had this to say about the spray-painted costume prop, nonchalantly revealing the dead Robin identity:
"This was one of the big things from Batman v Superman, right across this way. The Jason Todd Robin suit. Spray painted on the front 'Ha ha. The joke's on you Batman'. Those of you that know the storyline, know what happened to this Robin."
For those who don't know, Jason Todd was the second character to take on the mantle of Robin alongside Batman after Dick Grayson left to become Nightwing. In the comics, Todd gets killed by The Joker in the story arc "A Death in the Family," but he eventually is brought back to life as the antihero Red Hood, who turns out to be a villain for Batman to confront. Obviously the revelation of Red Hood's identity is a shocking one to Bruce Wayne and it really hits him hard.
This confirmation of Robin's identity seems to lend credence to the rumor that surfaced last fall stating that the solo Batman movie directed by Ben Affleck would adapt both the "A Death in the Family" and "Under the Red Hood" storylines for the big screen. However, we've also heard that tons of villains will appear in the movie as well, so we're not sure what to believe at this point. While the Red Hood storyline would be cool to see played out on the big screen, it's also a little too similar to The Winter Soldier arc for Captain America.
There's a chance that this tour guide was misinformed or made an assumption while doing the tour, but since this was a video that was officially posted on the Warner Bros. tour Facebook page, that means it was approved for release by someone at the studio and the information was likely accurate. If not, what would be the point of taking the video down? If true, this likely wasn't something that was meant to be revealed just yet, so maybe they're trying to preserve the mystery. We'll have to be patient to find out.
