Cool Stuff: The House Of The Devil VHS Tape / DVD Combo Pack
We've featured House of the Devil on the site many times over the past six months. Hunter even called the film the best horror film of the year, and one of his top five movies of 2009. The movie tells the story of "a pretty college sophomore, so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby."An older couple lure Sam out to their creaky Victorian mansion deep in the woods, just in time for a total lunar eclipse, and a night which might end "in a bloody fight for her life..."
One of the great things about the film is that it was shot in the style of a 1980's horror film. It's not only shot in the style, features the tone, pacing of an 80's horror film, but it uses the exact filming techniques and technology of that era. Basically, if I put the movie on television, and told you it was a horror film from 1983, you'd believe me. A little while ago, Dark Sky Films sent out a copy of the movie on VHS to some horror journalists, as part of a viral marketing initiative for the film. At the time they said that the VHS copies were only produced for the viral, and would not be available for sale. It appears they have changed their minds.
/Film reader Drew B pointed me towards an Amazon link, which offers The House of the Devil in an Amazon Exclusive VHS/DVD bundle. The price is only $23.99 for the preorder, which ships on February 2nd 2010. How cool is that? Too bad there isn't a Blu-ray/VHS combo pack.
