Casting Bits: Jennifer Lawrence Gets Jazzy, Leonardo DiCaprio Rocks & Chris Pine Is Lost In Time
Jennifer Lawrence to play Zelda Fitzgerald
After showing us her pipes with a little song in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I, The Hollywood Reporter has learned Jennifer Lawrence is about to dive deep into the musical world with Zelda, a new biopic about jazz icon Zelda Fitzgerald. The iconic singer was also known for being married to The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald, who dubbed her as "the first American flapper," and the film will explores whether or not the love in their relationship can survive in spite of their fame as artists. However, Zelda's story ends tragically as she became diagnosed with schizophrenia and lost herself to the mental ailment.
Ron Howard is eyeing the project as a director with The White Queen scribe Emma Frost writing the script loosely based on Nancy Milford's biography of the same name. We'll see if this becomes one of those projects that actually makes it in front of the camera or gets stuck in development.
Leonardo DiCaprio pioneers rock as Sam Phillips
Speaking of The Great Gatsby, Deadline reports the recent film adaptation's star Leonardo DiCaprio has lined up yet another project to follow his recently announced Captain Planet movie and the development of Truevine.
Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights to Peter Guralnick's book Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock 'N' Roll and Leonardo DiCaprio has stepped up as the producer and star of an adaptation that will tell the story of the iconic rock producer. Sam Phillips is known for making stars out of iconic musicians such as Elvis Presley, Ike Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins by way of his label Sun Records in the 1950s.
Mick Jagger is also on board as producer along with Jennifer Davisson over at DiCaprio's Appian Way banner, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Ian Montone, Rick Yorn and the book's author. However, there's no writer or director on board the project yet.
We've seen plenty of rock biopics, but seeing one about the man who helped discover so many musicians should be a nice change of pace.
Chris Pine is lost in A Wrinkle in Time
Having already been at the center of a franchise made entirely possible by time travel, Chris Pine will finally get the chance to travel through time himself in A Wrinkle in Time, the film based on Madeleine L'Engle's book series Time Quartet.
The story follows two siblings and one of their friends as they must travel through time to find their father, who has gone missing. The journey takes them to different planets and introduces them to three fantastical beings, Mrs. Which (Oprah Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Reese Witherspoon), and Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling).
The Wrap reveals Chris Pine has been cast as Mr. Murray, the missing father, who discovered the titular gateway through time thanks to the help from his wife Kate Murry, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
