'Cabin Fever' Remake Trailer: These Kids Are Awfully Sick
It's been a long 13 years since Eli Roth's directorial debut, Cabin Fever, so fans of the film are finally getting the remake they've always wanted. Kidding aside, yes, the remake of Roth's horror movie is due out in theaters next month, and there's now a trailer for the film.
Check it out below.
A prequel and a sequel were made for Cabin Fever, and neither of them really landed with audiences. Director Ti West (The Innkeepers) made the sequel, but even he tried to get his name removed from the project after the producers took over the film. About a year and a half ago we heard the remake, directed by Travis Zarwiny, would use Eli Roth's original script, which features a bunch of college graduates encountering a skin-eating disease.
At the time, executive-producer Eli Roth had this to say:
Travis had an amazing vision for my original script, and as a scary movie fan I really wanted to see it. I almost see this like re-staging a play, and I'm excited to see what ideas Travis and the cast bring to it. They're all fans of the original and want to make a film that's a new classic and I believe they will.
Based on the Cabin Fever remake trailer release by Bloody Disgusting, do you think this will be a new classic?
Zarwiny definitely did use Roth's original script, without making many changes, because most of the major story beats are all in this trailer. That's not a total knock on the remake, as the original Cabin Fever is still a darkly funny horror movie with some fun practical effects. But that's kind of the problem: the original holds up. Why reintroduce this story to a "new generation"? They'd probably still enjoy Roth's original movie. Maybe Zarwiny will bring a fresh perspective to the story, but this trailer isn't particularly promising.
Here's the official synopsis:
Executive producer Eli Roth presents this reboot of his instant classic gorefest, which features all new characters and all new kills. This story is familiar: fresh out of college, a group of five friends retreat to a remote cabin in the woods for one last week of partying- only to become snacks for a gruesome, flesh-eating virus. What's surprising are the ingenious new deaths, which offer a fresh spin on a horror-comedy milestone. With Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf) and Dustin Ingram (Paranormal Activity 3).
Cabin Fever will open in limited release and On Demand on February 12th.
