Bryan Singer And Simon Kinberg Answer Burning Questions About 'Days Of Future Past' And 'Apocalypse'
The release of 25 different magazine covers for X-Men: Days of Future Past both answered a bunch of questions but raised a bunch too. We found out what Quicksilver was going to look like, and saw the modern Sentinels, but at the same time, why did Wolverine have metal claws in the future considering what happened in The Wolverine? And wasn't Rogue cut out of the film?
In an new interview, director Bryan Singer and writer Simon Kinberg answered those questions and even addressed the next announced X-Men film, X-Men Apocalypse, calling it "more of a First Class sequel." Read the quotes below.
First up, Singer suggested to Empire how even though Wolverine loses his adamantium claws at the end of The Wolverine, they're back in Days of Future Past:
[Magneto could possibly] reconstitute the adamantium claws... [Wolverine] has a different relationship with Magneto, and perhaps Magneto could forge them.
That's not a definite, but it shows they've thought about it. They've also thought about Rogue, whom we heard had been cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past, but got an Empire cover nonetheless. Here's Kinberg:
It was one real sequence in the movie. We felt like it was taking tension out of the main story drive.
Singer added:
It does not mean that we won't see her in the film. Also, I hope to make the sequence available on the DVD as she was quite wonderful in it. She is an important part of the X-Men family. I 'm very pleased she will remain as one of Empire's anniversary covers.
Finally, on the topic of the already announced 2016 X-Men movie, X-Men Apocalypse, Singer and Kinberg had a few things to say. First, here's Singer on the inspiration for the story:
One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants. What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?
And Kinberg continues:
Age of Apocalypse was one of my favorite stores. We like the stakes of it, and it feels like a story that could impact a lot of our favorite characters in big, dramatic ways. We feel it's a very different story from Days of Future Past. For starters, it's a very different villain, and the characters will be in very different places emotionally.
Since Days of Future Past brings in characters from both the past and present, a big question about Apocalypse is which set of characters will the film follow? Well, Singer clears that up once again:
[It's] more of a First Class sequel....It'll take place some time after this movie. What happens in this movie brings about what'll happen in that movie.
And finally, he dismissed the notion of a rumored post credit sequence involving Magneto getting possessed by an alien:
That's not the case, and nor will that particular thing be in the film. People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from.
Thanks to Coming Soon for those quotes from the latest Empire.
