'Blair Witch' Trailer: You May Want To Think Twice About Camping Again
Audiences lucky enough to get into a sneak preview screening of the horror flick The Woods at Comic-Con were treated to one of the coolest surprises that cinema has seen in a while. The horror film directed by Adam Wingard was revealed to actually be a sequel to The Blair Witch Project simply called Blair Witch. In the spirit of the original film, it's apparently one of the scarier horror releases in recent memory.
Now a new Blair Witch trailer has arrived to show you the terror in store when the movie hits theaters next month, and it looks even more suspenseful and terrifying than the original movie from 1999. With the way this secret was kept from audiences, I really hope it delivers the scares along with the surprise that this movie even exists.
Here's the new Blair Witch trailer from Collider:
After a quick set-up in the woods, most of the trailer focuses on one of the female subjects getting locked underground, forced to crawl through a dirt tunnel to try to escape. If you're claustrophobic, that alone will be enough to make you squirm in your seat, but there's also that supernatural force out there who has been known to dispatch with campers pretty nonchalantly as well.
It's so awesome that Lionsgate was able to keep this secret sequel under wraps, and I can't wait to see how this all ties into the original movie. We know that one of the leads is the younger brother of Heather, the girl from the first movie, and he's anxious to get some closer about her disappearance. And of course, James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, and Wes Robinson all find themselves caught up in the same horror from 17 years ago.
In addition, we've also heard there are some interesting revelations about the original movie, especially with regards to the haunting closing shot. Hopefully all the secrecy will have been worth the struggle when audiences see the movie next month.
A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James' sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
Blair Witch hits theaters on September 16.
