Jason Segel And Drew Pearce Making Lego Spin-Off 'Billion Brick Race'
Warner Bros. is Lego crazy. The studio did so well with The Lego Movie that a sequel has been set, and that film's version of Batman is being spun off into his own movie. Plus there's the Lego Ninjago movie already set for release in 2016. Now Warners is developing yet another Lego spin-off movie, called Billion Brick Race.
We don't know the plot of the film, but it sounds like a Lego version of The Cannonball Run, or of The Amazing Race. But we do know that Jason Segel and Drew Pearce will write and co-direct it.
THR reveals that The Lego Movie masterminds Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee will produce Billion Brick Race.
The film is just starting to come together, so there's no release date or other info to offer. But Segal helped Disney revive The Muppets, and Drew Pearce is known for Iron Man 3 and the Marvel One-Shot All Hail the King, and he also wrote Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation. They make an interesting team that should be able to triangulate the established Lego formula of character, comedy, and action.
As for WB's other Lego plans, the Charlie Bean-directed Ninjago arrives on September 23 2016, with The Lego Batman Movie (directed by Chris McKay) set for 2017 and The Lego Movie Sequel (directed by Rob Schrab) arriving in 2018.
