Check It Out: Crazy 'Back To The Future' DeLorean iPhone Case

While we wait for the hoverboards and self-tying Nikes we were promised, here's another way to make your 2015 feel a bit more like Marty McFly's 2015. Japanese toy company Bandai has announced a Back to the Future DeLorean iPhone case.

By that, we don't mean they've just taken a plain old iPhone case and painted on some fancy pictures. No, this is a detailed miniature model with working lights and everything. You'll have to supply your own flux capacitor if you actually want to send it through time, though.

The Back to the Future DeLorean iPhone case fits the iPhone 6 model. The wheels are in hover mode, which is probably for the best so the thing doesn't roll right off your desk. Based on the video, it appears the headlights and exterior strip lights blink when you get a call. It also appears you'll look pretty silly when you pick up this miniature car and hold it to your ear.

This maybe isn't the most practical of cases. The shape makes it difficult to fit into your jacket or pants pocket, and all the little details look like they could break or chip if this case gets jostled around in your bag. It also adds a lot of bulk and weight to a product that Apple has spent a lot of time trying to make as light and slim as possible.

On the other hand, Bandai does make some concessions to functionality with wheels that pop open to reveal the camera and volume buttons. And sure, you'll look dumb talking into it, but you'll look really cool in the few seconds before that, when an incoming call sends your tiny DeLorean blinking to life.

If you're sold, you can pre-order yours at the Bandai site. It'll cost you 5,940 yen (about $50 USD) plus shipping. The Back to the Future DeLorean case is expected to arrive in June.
