Mystery Woman No Longer In 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'
Marvel hasn't been shy about sharing Avengers: Age of Ultron footage, but some of the clips have raised more questions than they've answered. One major mystery from the second trailer was the identity of a certain briefly glimpsed female character. The Internet was immediately flooded with theories, some more plausible than others.
Well, as it turns out, we no longer have to worry about her. Not because Marvel has revealed her name, but because they've cut her from the movie entirely. Learn more about the Avengers 2 mystery woman after the jump.
To refresh your memory, we're referring to the dark-skinned woman we see disrobing by a body of water inside a cave in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer released in January. Go check it out again if you have to. We'll wait.
At the time, we wondered if she might be Shuri (Black Panther's sister) or a member of the Dora Milaje (Black Panther's team of bodyguards). Another popular theory was that she might be a female creation of Ultron's, maybe his "bride" Jocasta.
Having seen Avengers: Age of Ultron, however, EW brings the mystery to an utterly anticlimactic end: She isn't in it at all. But it seems she was originally supposed to be associated with Thor. The site writes: "Thor's whole journey to this cave is a bit of a headscratcher, which suggests a subplot that was seriously truncated."
So whoever she was, it looks like she was never all that central to the film. Which isn't to say she couldn't prove important later on — it's possible the character was intended as an Easter egg to set up developments later on.
For now, though, we can go ahead and put all the Avengers 2 mystery woman theories to rest. And maybe turn our attention to more important mysteries. Like what the hell use Hawkeye's bow and arrow are supposed to be against an army of robots.
Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives without its mystery woman on May 1.
