Adam McKay Would Like To Release Second Version Of 'Anchorman 2' With Over 200 New Jokes
For every one joke you've laughed at in an Adam McKay movie, there are probably 10 other completely different jokes that hit the cutting room floor. Sadly, fans rarely get to see most of these, except for the occasional extra feature on the DVD. For his next film, though, McKay is considering something very radical. While the first Anchorman spawned a direct-to-DVD alternate version, he's considering releasing a whole second version of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, with over 240 brand news jokes, to theaters.
McKay revealed it to Empire Magazine (via The Playlist)
We did so much improv on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs...I think the editor's working on it right now, with 250 new jokes...I think it would be really funny to put it in theaters for midnight showings. I know that I personally, if I loved a movie and someone told me that, like if'Airplane!' had been released with all-new jokes, I'd be like, 'you've got to be fucking kidding me!' I'd see it in a second.
So basically you'd get the movie with their best jokes, then a small release of the same movie – same story, etc. – but just every single joke in it has been replaced.
Hopefully, we'll have more details soon as McKay talked more about it in another recent interview.
Here's also a new poster for the film.
