2015 Academy Awards Nominations

The wait is over. Early this morning, Chris Pine, J.J. Abrams, Alfonso Cuarón, and Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs gathered to announce the nominees for the 87th Oscars.

Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel led the nominations with 9 each, followed closely by The Theory of Everything with 8. American Sniper did better than expected with 7 nominations (including Best Actor and Best Picture).

On the flip side, The Lego Movie somehow failed to grab a Best Animated Feature Film nod, and Nightcrawler secured only a single nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

In somewhat happier news, Selma won a spot in the Best Picture race and picked up a nomination for its Golden Globe-winning theme "Glory"... but both lead actor David Oyelowo and director Ava DuVernay went ignored.

One of the bigger surprises in the acting categories was Marion Cotillard's Best Actress nomination for Two Days, One Night, for which she beat out the likes of Jennifer Aniston (Cake) and Amy Adams (Big Eyes).
